A few hours after publishing my own article yesterday — “Is Your Software Getting in Your Way? You’re Not Alone.” — I stumbled across Mark Cuban’s latest interview. And honestly, the timing surprised me, because what he said lines up almost perfectly with the frustrations I described.
💥 Cuban argues that “software is dead.”
At first it sounds dramatic, but his point is actually very down‑to‑earth:
Most companies aren’t being held back by a lack of software.
They’re being held back by software that can’t adapt, can’t integrate, and forces people to work around it instead of with it.
That hit close to home.
In our own work, the biggest obstacles to automation have never been motivation or ideas. The real problem has always been that one stubborn tool that refuses to talk to anything else. One closed system can stall an entire chain of processes.
👉 Cuban’s argument goes further:
he predicts that the most important job in the coming years won’t be a programmer or data scientist, but something he calls the “Technical Translator.”
And when you think about it, the term makes sense.
A Technical Translator is someone who understands:
🔹What AI systems can actually do
🔹What the business realistically needs
🔹And how to translate workflows into something AI can automate
🔗 This is the missing link in many organizations.
AI isn’t the difficult part anymore — it’s the part where you have to map real workflows, data gaps, exceptions, approvals, handovers, and all the messy things that exist anywhere humans work.
In other words:
➡️ Companies don’t just need new software.
➡️ They need people who can bridge the space between technology and day‑to‑day operations.
Reading Cuban’s piece right after finishing my own made me realize that we’re all feeling the same shift from different angles. Whether you’re running a business or trying to modernize one, the pattern is the same:
✨ The tools aren’t the bottleneck.
🔗 The integration is the bottleneck.
🧭 And the people who can translate between the two will shape the next phase of work.
Curious whether others are seeing this same trend inside their organizations.
